Summer Update 2018

My daughter and I on her high school graduation day!

I hope you have all been enjoying your summer and are ready as I am to make the seasonal switch to Fall.  It's been pretty quiet around here this summer because of how busy I and my family have been this summer with lots of new changes and transitions.  Now that things are beginning to settle I wanted to give you an update of what's been going on.

First of all, we moved to Florida from Connecticut!  This involved selling our home of 13 years and relocating all of our belongings to a new place.  If you've ever done a big move you know all the details that go into such a move and you can begin to understand why I had little time to read much less to blog about it.

Soon after arriving to our new home in Florida we traveled to Colorado to situate our daughter into her college, Colorado College, where she is now a freshman.  I can't believe my little munchkin is a college freshman!

It was hard to leave the home and town where she grew up.  But it was the perfect timing as we are all starting new adventures.

Finally, I am starting a new full-time job as a professor at the University of Florida teaching courses in Latino/a Studies and Women's Studies.  Are you out of breath yet?  I certainly am.  Needless to say adjustment and adapting are the key themes in my life right now.  Adjusting to an empty nest, to new surroundings, and to a new campus and colleagues is a lot to take in in just a couple of months.  But I'm hopeful that in a few months our new environments will begin to feel like home.

What does this all mean for my Brown Stories endeavors?  Well, I'm still committed to using this forum as a way to share my love of books and share brown stories with you of all kinds, from historical figures and events you may not know about, to amazing works of literature by authors of color, to fun and educational stories for kids, particularly all of the amazing offerings from Barefoot Books.

So stay tuned...the best is yet to come.
